Someone on here asked a question on here that I’ve been pondering myself for a long time…?

It was about whether it’d be right to work for a Pet Store even though you don’t agree with people buying pups at one. When I turn 16 I want my very first part time job to be dog related, but I don’t think I could ever bring myself to work for a pet store.

Can anyone think of any alternatives to working at a pet store that I can think about? I already thought of working at a groomers shop, but I’m not sure if I’m interested. Again, I’m just looking for a part time job, not something to support anybody on. Just for me to have a little money to put towards college, a house, or even just a little pocket money.

And I’m not talking about anything like dog walking. I’m talking about working for a full fledged business that sends my pay check in the mail, you know? And what’s a specialty pet store? Does that mean they only sell Pet Supplies?

a good way also to get an in for having experience could be already now if posible voluntear with a shelter or rescue, even if you cant get a paid job there (?) a paper ref to put on a CV will look nice and up the chanse of geting a job, sometimes as a teen it can get hard to get into the work market basicaly for lack of references, so the more references you got the better

you got any clubs or organisations that you sat on any boards or anything, all and anything that can help you build a CV will help, just to prove that you are willing and able to work without a fuzz and are reliable

so if you can get a ref of babysitting for a whole summer for a neighbour (actualy get a written testemony of having worked from said period to so, and having done well and whatnot) just that there can help to prove you can be relied on to manage a job for a period of time…many young people cant manage the stress and whatnot of a job, or cant be relied on to stay on, while you are in training they dont have full usage of you…hence training is costy…and few wants to train someone that will imidiatly leave them so they have to start over and train someone new

i had some years on whatever jobs i could get before i got a higher paying job where i liked it (not pet related), and once they first had trained me so i knew their rutines that ment i could get a jobb there every summer because i had an advantage not only in having general experience, but i had experience with their rutines and way of doing things, so they only needed a shorter retraining period, instead of a full fledged training period on the start of summer (and this saved them money and time) and they knew they could rellay on me being hard working and avaliable when they needed me, that i was cooperative and hardly ever would say no (because i wanted the money) as long as they gave a reasonable timeframe warning of changes to schedule

i belive that due to this and being social and whatnot i became popular among the employers and that was why i was able to go back year after year as long as i wanted, basicaly they wanted me to come

so definantly if you can get any type of references built up go for it, just to actualy get a “proof” that you can be trusted to hold down a job, be cooperative and reliable, if you have a “proof” on that at young age especialy it will go to show your drive and willingness…so definantly an advantage (not a must, but a star in the book)
